Manuka oil – Leptospermum scoparium. Used historically by the Māori for medicinal purposes, Manuka oil has been studied in depth and shown to have well documented and proven healing properties. Manuka oil sourced from the East Cape, such as this one, contains the highest amount of compounds known as triketones. These are said to be responsible for the powerful natural antimicrobial agent in the oil.
Lavender oil – Lavandula angustifolia . Lavender oil is the most well-known of the essential oils and is known for its many uses. It is reportedly analgesic (for pain), antiseptic, antiviral and bactericidal amongst many others. It is recommended for topical use and generally used for disinfection and for healing minor wounds and burns and also for calming and relaxing.
Calendula officinalis flower extract – This extract has anti-inflammatory and vulnerary (prevents tissue degeneration and promotes healing of wounds) properties and is often used for skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, wounds and burns.
Almond oil – Prunus amygdalus dulcis. Almond oil has a long shelf life and is known to be anti-inflammatory. A light base oil rich in linoleic acid so is extremely emollient and used extensively in skincare.
Coconut oil – Cocos nucifera. Coconut oil has an exceptionally long shelf life. Has Antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties. Moisturising and healing.
Castor seed oil – Ricinus communis. This oil is Antiviral and hydrating. It is used to restore the skins natural moisture balance. It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids to protect the skin from harmful viruses and bacteria.
Carnauba wax – Copernicia prunifera – Carnauba is a tree native to Brazil. This is a non-toxic and hypo allergenic product known as Queen of the waxes.
Capric Caprylic triglycerides – A medium chain fatty acid (saturated fat) present in coconut oil and found naturally in fruits. It has a light silky feel that is not greasy and creates a barrier. It improves the feel and spreadability. A suitable carrier for oils. Antiviral, antimicrobial and anti-fungal.
Hydrogenated castor oil – Natural Hydrogen gas is mixed with natural castor bean oils which purifies the oil so any toxins are removed from the beans. It makes a wax like consistency and extends shelf life. It works with the other oils in the formula so the mix is not crumbly. It has a long history of safe use in personal care products. Not for internal use but fine for skin. Protects from rancidity and keeps the product fresh.
